8th Wonder

The current favourite tune from the Black Keys 8th album Turn Blue is this slow groover 10 Lovers. It's a fairly upbeat track from an LP that is relatively melancholy affair following the hook-laden El Camino. Less raw blues as it steers towards the indie-pop arena via psychedelic rock and soul, the influence of co-producer and co-writter of the band's frequent collaborator Brian "Danger Mouse" Burton is quite a major force. 10 Lovers is probably the one song that show's this partnership off to the max and wouldn't sound out of place on th last Broken Bells LP. This is no criticism of a the Black Keys, Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney have come a long way since the raw and heavy fuck-up distorted grime they banged out in the early LPs. This is the sound of a band maturing with style and class, Turn Blue maybe a slower, stoned-out follow-up but it's no less heavy on emotion.
