Magnifique Electropop!

Couldn't resist posting this track up - Bye Bye mon ami - Plaisir Solitaire (Burgalat Remix). Bertrand adds his trademark kitsch cool to this electropop hit from french starlet Showgirls. From the album Mini.

I love it when summer pop sounds this good!

Bibio is really hitting form of late with his last album Mind Bokeh, and now this - Stand-out album track K Is For Kelson is now available as a new EP featuring 3 extra tracks, and K Is For Kelson is an alternative version to the album. All Their Sisters is the pick of the bunch from the new EP sounding like the older brother of K Is For Kelson with a more mature and very catchy melody and choppy beats. You can't help tapping your foot to this one!

Brazilian party-starters return!

Ah! It's good to hear Cansei de Ser Sexy (CSS) are back with more quirky pop Hit's Me Like A Rock is the bands first single from their third album La Liberación. Lovefoxxx is sounding in good voice dueting with Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie, who is returning the favour after Lovefoxxx appeared on Primal Scream’s last album, 2008′s Beautiful Future. Just in time for the summer then, it's like Tom Tom Club jamming with Primal Scream. Lush synths and obscure lyrics, business as usual for the Brazilian band.

60's Pop for 2011

Hey, nice baseline from the San Diego duo - Cults AKA Brian Oblivion and Madeline Follin (both now studying film in New York).

I love the way this sounds like it could've been recorded by Phil Spector in 60's. It has a real girl-pop-band-from-the-60's vibe that connects seamlessly with the polished 2011 production and synths. Singer Madeline Follin's babydoll voice coming on like the Shangri-Las and harmonises perfectly with Brian Oblivion's guitars basking in surf pop sunshine. Cool!

Futura music from a fairground in another realm

The quirky, mind-bending sounds of Battles have been banging the hell out of the Neoloop speakers for some time now. see a full review of the new album below. Futura is another stand out track and our current favourite. Crazy beats and clanging guitars and a melody to die for.

An African connection between rhythm and machine

This is off the hook!

Out in the Street it's murder!

Mark Pritchard and Steve Spacek, the two producers who comprise Africa Hitech are still cutting it. Out In The Street is relentless, referencing dancehall history while cleverly tweaking its bleep-riddled rhythms into a classic of alien ragga. Africa Hitech's debut full-length, 93 Million Miles is out now.

Africa Hitech have described themselves as being about an 'ism', an African connection between rhythm and machine. Running through everything they do is a vibe that exceeds genre, a captivating fusion of Pritchard and Spacek's musical sensibilities.

Love the cover art for this too...

Wonderful!

I've been listening to a lot of old french pop lately, this little ditti is the title track from Pascal Parisot's 2003 album Wonderful. Reminds me of early Manu Chao tunes. Pascal sings like a young Serge Gainsbourg with the accompaniment of a light reggae beat and a catchy chorus sung in English. The perfect complement to a sunny afternoon.

I'm well into to Jessica 6, their debut album See The Light is very infectious. New York trio Nomi Ruiz (vocals, songs), Andrew Raposo (bass), Morgan Wiley (keyboards) are causing quite a stir. P-funk and electro-punk attitude take on the dancefloor with passion and sassy classy sound. This is a remix of Fun Girl by Keinemusik is a very hypnotic nu-disco monster, fucking brilliant riff!

More French pop from the legendary Bertrand Burgalat, a duet with April March released as a single earlier this year and appears on a compilation from Tricatel records called Tricatel Rare. A great comp of various tunes from Burgalat vaults. Love it!

Perfect French Pop!

Following a bit travelling around Europe, I heard this track in a shop in Switzerland and discovered it was none other than Charlotte Gainsbourg dueting on a Étienne Daho track from his eighth studio album Growth resumed from 2003. It's a great song and reminds me of the tunes Charlotte done with her father the great Serge Gainsbourg.

Blissed out pop shimmers with summer gold.

Washed Out is the mastermind of Ernest Greene, he releases Washed Out's debut full-length LP, Within and Without on July 12th, on Sub Pop Records. Nearly two years after his brilliant Life of Leisure EP came out. This is the first track from Within and Without, Greene recorded the LP with Ben Allen, who, among a great many other things, co-produced Animal Collective’s Merriweather Post Pavillion, Gnarls Barkley’s St. Elsewhere and Deerhunter’s Halcyon Digest. Nice and easy dreamy pop, looking forward to the full LP. Keep unto date on his MySpace.

Brooklyn Nu-disco/electropop trio Jessica 6 (named after a Logan’s Run reference) are of former members of Hercules & Love Affair and have just released their debut album, See the Light, through Peacefrog Records. It's full of stomping nu-disco groovers and hypnotic funk, including another guest vocal from Anthony Hegarty on Prisoner of Love. To celebrate the band has released a B-side, a party-starter called East West Funk as a free download. If you liked the first Hercules & Love Affair LP then you'll love this.

Following the 12-inch I Need You, this is another single of new material from Mayer Hawthorne after his debut album A Strange Arrangement. No Strings (Classixx Original) is the best in my opinion, a soulful chat-up from Mayer trying to get a lady into bed for a one night stand. He is one smooth operator, and together with fellow Stones Throw artist Aloe Blacc neo-soul never sounded so good.
